Very much a classic Sapphic read. Its classical a book that helped inspire Dracula. You can get through it pretty quick. I was able to finish this in a 3 hour train ride. I just wish there was a good movie adaptation but none so far. :/ . Obviously there are going to be aspects that feel outdated and I was nervous about this book having podophilic descriptions. Great descriptions and the author does a good job of setting the mood of the story right away but the ending for me fell a little flat but its important to consider the time. At the end of the day its like a founding fathers for gothic books! I personally got my copy from Barnes and noble but at the bottom I have a link to a free version through the internet archive. ⬇

Review: 10/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fantastic read. I think what makes a good film, book anything really is if it doesn't feel like a chore to revisit. I have always felt like in the adaptations, Frankenstein's bride isn't a reference to romance but I think for siblings. But in terms of the novel its heartbreaking and the horror comes from human apathy. Something that is very much relevant all these years later. To me this book felt like a diary of someone who just yearns for connection and miss-understood. A VERY good read. and the Del Toro adaptation was out of this world good!! REALLY GOOD. I first read this back in middle school and while the read
is at that level it is by no means just for that age. The descriptions were SO
GOOD which is why the movie disappointed me so much. I think they casted Jake really well but the changes they made from the novel made no sense. They tried going for a live action Alice in Wonderland vibe but while reading I felt like the closest thing I could compare the vibes to is The Lighthouse with William Defoe and Robert Pattinson. I love a book that I can see it like a movie in my head. I was able to find a PDF on the web to read for free :D ⬇

Once again, I read this back in middle school and haven't gotten the chance to read it again. From what I remember the beginning is fantastic! I remember getting this vivid imagery of what its like growing up in a isolated immigrant household and this sort of melancholy. I will soon re-read to properly remember the ending.
